SAN??SAN=Storage Area Network(ストレージエリアネットワーク )Very Expensive!I even can't afford a NAS
Quote form my knowledge database:
Storage Area Network (SAN) in computing is a network which is designed to attach computer storage devices such as Disk Array Controllers and Tape Silos to servers. (In 2003) SANS are increasingly considered the best way of storing large volumes of data.
SANs originated to overcome the problems with network attached storage (NAS) devices, which like ordinary servers, are difficult to manage and expand, as well as adding to the Ethernet network traffic. NAS devices also suffer from the delays introduced by the operating systems' network stacks.
A SAN is made up of a number of fabric switches which are connected together to form network. The most common form of SAN uses the Fibre Channel fabric protocol and in this case the switches would be Fibre Channel switches. An alternative fabric protocol is ISCSI. In this case the switches would be IP switches.
Connected to the SAN will be one or more Disk array controllers and one or more servers. The SAN allows the hard disks in the Disk array controllers to be shared amongst the servers. Because the hard disks are 'pooled' in this way, the utilisation of the storage capacity is usually also much higher than for direct attached storage.
The connections between the SAN and the servers is usually made using optical fiber links.
One of the early problems with SANs was that Fibre Channel switches and other hardware from different manufacturers was not compatible. Many systems were pushed to the market before standards were finalised and vendors innovated around the standards. This problem began to be solved during 2002 and 2003 through the combined efforts of the members of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA).
