1957年，苏联卫星发射成功，美国民众萌发了危机意识。一个矿井小镇的普通高中生霍默（杰克·吉伦哈尔 Jake Gyllenhaal 饰）此刻却为自己的未来忧虑，他在球队选拔中落选，而体魄强健的哥哥一直更受父亲约翰（克里斯·库珀 Chris Cooper 饰）认可，不甘于平庸的霍默萌生了制作火箭的想法，在老师和朋友们的支持下，霍默全身心投入了研究，老师更带来了他可以通过火箭制作进入大学学习的机会。而另一方面，身为矿井负责人的约翰希望儿子继承矿井，对他的研究加以阻扰，同时警方也为山林失火事件终止了霍默的活动，这个年轻人还能获得自己想要的成功么？
A good film can inspire people to think about their life . A good film can impress people so greatly that we can’t forget it in long time . A good film can give people the enjoyment of love , hope and courage.
October Sky indeed is a good film . What is the rate of achieving this goal? It is only one to million . Oh ,that is so big . Even the chance of our goal is so small , we still should try our best to do it just to give ourself a response. I have learned so many things in the film . The hero in the film have to compete in the scientific show and get the first price so that he can get the scholarship which can help him to go to the college to get the further education. However this is so difficult that even his close friends think it is impossible . We feel so exciting when we see the progress they make. As if it is us have made the progress.
The film shows the viewer the optimistic value of life . Even the chance of achieving our goal is so small ,even other person may not understand us , even our father don't support us , we also have on reason to be negative about our life . We must be confident what we are doing . What we should do is just insist on what we are doing . Remember we should live for ourselves. In our life ,we must know what we are doing , what we are interested in doing , and then we only need to do is focusing our energy and persistence on it .
This film also reflects the American Dream . America is the land full of freedom and dreams. Maybe you don't have good education and great family background . However , if you have a dream and work hard for it ,you will also get success .
The most important thing I have learned is that we should have a dream that needs us to be persistent in our whole life . Dream has magic power which can help us deal with the failure and difficulty . Secondly , we can't succeed only by ourselves so that we need to cooperate with other person who also has the same ideal. Thirdly , we should develop the good habit. As we all know ,good habit is one of the keys to our goal. Nowdays we may not acknowledge one skill totally in college , but at least we should develop some good habit . In my mind , the most important thing is not what we get finally but the process to persuit what we want . Through the process ,we can really get some valuable things. The last but not the least , the ability of learning is beneficial to acknowledge the skills we need to achieve our goal .
In a whole , this film is definitely an excellent one . If we don't have a dream , then go to find a dream . If we already have a dream ,then try our best and never give up . In my mind ,our lives' value lies in our dream . We need to live for ourselves and our dream.
